After the hike up the mountain we decided to go hunt down some waterfalls. On the way out to the waterfall we wound up hitting a dog. It's the first, and hopefully only, time I've been on a bike and run over one of the street dogs. We tried to miss him but the stupid dog decided to run right in front of us and stop inches from our front tire:( Fortunately, he did get up and limp away afterwards.
After that our we arrived at the waterfall with no problems. The trail started on a beautiful lake and wound through the forest, we had to cross the river a few times. Luckily we had a trusty four legged tour guide to lead us...the rangers dog led us along the trail and if we were walking too slowly he'd come back and get us.
After hiking I had to sit around the guest house for 5 hours until my 11pm bus for Bangkok left. The bus was supposed to arrive in Bangkok around 5:30 am, so I could reach the Embassy at7:30 to pick up my passport. But, the damn bus driver decided to speed and we arrived an hour early...I had to sit at the bus station forever instead of sleeping on the bus. I am incredibly lucky though because I arrived at the Embassy right when they opened and was able to get my passport in about 10 minutes. Then I was able to get to the southern bus station and get on the last morning bus to Surat Thani.
Sukhothai Trip: Part 3- Mountain climbing, hiking, and going home
I totally ment to post this earlier!
My last day in Sukhothai I went hiking with one of the workers from the guesthouse, Nung. We started the day by driving out to the mountains. We tried to hike up the top of the mountain but the trail was incredibly steep. It also didn't help that Nung had to stop every ten minutes to puff away on his cigarettes. The narrow trail was also crowded with students on a field trip who were slipping and sliding their way back down like a pack of monkeys. So, we only got up to the viewpoint which was about half way up. The view was really pretty and the hike up was entertaining. Some of the student army
